It’s the first snow of the year! I know those of you who’re used to it snowing during the winter months will find this to be a bit old hat, but for us southern dwellers, any snow is an exciting occasion… even when you have to drive through it to get to the bus stop. I had a bit of a hiccup at the end of my street (and by hiccup, I mean I almost slid out into oncoming traffic), but other than that my morning commute was pretty average.
2015 hasn’t brought too many changes with it so far; I still love my morning bus time as much as I ever did. Even on “Blue Monday,” the mournful day on which most people return to work after the winter holidays, I was happy to be back in the Queen City with someone else braving the wintery Interstate and a commercial-sized heater blowing warm air my way. It’s typically very quiet on the bus at 7:47 am, and I often find myself being quite contemplative. This post is the result of one of those times, one of many bus ride confessions.
Sitting on the bus this morning, I realized that I had a huge smile on my face and no apparent reason for said smile. Then I remembered: my life is fantastic!
I honestly am not trying to brag right now. I’m just still attempting to wrap my mind around the fact that Spencer and I were married nearly one month ago, and the life that I didn’t think would change at all has become so incredibly fulfilled in ways that I never imagined. I seriously would not change a thing at this moment. Even our ridiculously dirty apartment is a result of the piles of wrapping paper and boxes of gifts from our generous wedding guests (and you’ll never hear me complain about getting new kitchen goodies)!
I’m feeling rested from a few weeks off of work and inspired by the beautiful sights, sounds, and tastes of two lovely European cities. We’re back in our apartment with our adorable cat who never lets us sleep and doesn’t know how to properly drink water but is too darn cute for me to be angry with her. I recently got to spend time with my parents and my siblings for the first time since the wedding. I absolutely love this honeymoon period that I didn’t think you got to have when you dated someone for nine years before marrying them. As far as I’m concerned, the snow can fall for as long as it likes because, in a word, I am content.
