With only ten days left until Thanksgiving, I’ve already started to put together my grocery list and determine how we’re going to fit so many family members into our relatively tiny apartment. However, I have been seriously lacking in my acknowledgement of the true reason for the season!
Whenever my immediate family would host Thanksgiving for the rest of the family, my mom would come up with little activities for us to do throughout dinner that emphasized being thankful and its importance. We wrote our thanks on leaves, turkeys, the tablecloth, spoke them aloud to the rest of the table; there are so many different options, and I still haven’t decided what I’m going to subject my family to this year!
To help get me in the mood, I’m dedicating today’s post to just a few of the things that I have been incredibly thankful for over the past few months. So here are seven things for which I am supremely thankful this year!
1. Spencer, the most wonderful husband-to-be in the whole world
He makes me laugh, keeps me sane, encourages me, lets me pick the movies when I need a good cry, and deals with the less adorable things that come with having a cat. This photo is from the morning we got engaged, thus the ski bibs and rosy cheeks!
2. My crazy family
I don’t know what I would do without these people in my life. Living a few states away has really made me realize how much I need their support and crave their presence. This photo is so old, but it includes one whole side of my family, and it’s pretty hilarious, so it accurately describes how thankful I am for these people!
3. My newer family that I’ll be officially joining in December
Truth be told, Spencer’s family has felt a lot like mine, too, for the last few years. When you’ve been dating someone for nine years, you come to care about the people that they care about. December will just make it official on a piece of paper.
4. An incredibly fulfilling, first “real” job
And it doesn’t just fulfill my sweet tooth! Since September, I have gotten to know my coworkers, and I’ve come to care for the organization and its mission in a way that I didn’t realize I could. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have found such a great job environment right off the bat!
5. The vibrant, unique city of Cincinnati that I get to call home
I had some qualms about Cincinnati at first. In some ways, it feels so different from Georgia, but then it also seems incredibly similar at the same time. After roughly six months here, I can say that I am thankful to have found this little piece of the U.S. I think we’ll get along just fine.
6. A group of intelligent, lovely women that I can count on even when we’re all apart
I absolutely adore my friends. I didn’t know what would happen after graduation when we all spread out across the country, but I am happy to report that I still feel as close to most of them as I did this time last year. I am so very blessed!
7. This rambunctious little fur ball who goes by Zoey
I honestly don’t think I can finish a list on this blog without including Zoey in it. But like I always say to Spencer, our day-to-day lives would be so much more boring without her. And look at that darling little face!
What are you most thankful for this year? Family, friends, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities? Leave some Thanksgiving love below!
