Happy Friday, friends! I had a post planned for today, but then I didn’t feel like writing it this weekend or even throughout this week. Finally when it didn’t happen last night, I gave up and took to the Internet to find something to share with you all this morning. Luckily I came across these great questions geared toward book lovers on The Literary Snob‘s blog, and since Jenn has been inspiring me to read more, I thought it was perfect timing!
1. First book you remember reading
The Magic Treehouse series – I devoured these books. Time travel, wizards, tree houses? My first grade self was all about it.
2. Favourite OTP (“one true pairing”) from a book
Faramir and Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings – Aragorn and Arwen were always too obvious to me. I loved Éowyn because she was brave and independent, and I thought she and Faramir were a nice breath of fresh air that I didn’t expect.
3. The book/series that made you fall in love with reading
The Dear America series – I read every one of these that I could get my hands on. The series about princesses, too. They introduced me to girls from every period of history and showed me I had an insatiable appetite for good books!
4. Most over rated author/book in your opinion
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner – I’m putting this book here with a disclaimer: I haven’t read it since high school, and maybe I should give it another chance. Also, “my mother is a fish.”
5. One book you regret having read
None – I think you can learn something from every book you read. For instance, after reading the first Fifty Shades of Grey book, I learned that selling millions of copies does not make you a good writer.
6. If you could forget one book to experience it all over again, which one would it be?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen – It’s one of my absolute favorites, but I’ve studied it so many times in a classroom setting that I’d love to be a thirteen-year-old again, cracking it open for the first time.
7. One book that changed your life
Stargirl, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Just Listen, Fahrenheit 451 – So many came to mind when I read this question that I couldn’t just pick one!
8. That book you know isn’t too good yet it holds a special place in your heart
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series – What can I say? Four best friends, one pair of pants.
9. One book/series you would love to be adapted into a movie or TV show
The Gemma Doyle series – A Great and Terrible Beauty absolutely entranced me as a teenager. Libba Bray created such a unique, exciting world that I’m honestly surprised no one’s turned the books into films yet.
10. A character’s death that came as a massive shock
Hedwig in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – I was prepared for death because you knew it was coming, but her death was so immediate and seemed so unnecessary. (I know. What would they have done with a very recognizable bird in the Forest of Dean?) Regardless I immediately burst into tears.
BONUS. If you could get any quote tattooed on your body, what would it be?
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tunes without the words and never stops at all.” – Emily Dickinson
