On the final Friday of each month, I take a look back at all the things I loved and put together this list of recommendations for you: the Friday Finale. It might include the best book I read, a particularly impressive recipe I tried, or the best thing I streamed. I hope these standout moments from my month inspire you moving forward!
Let’s be honest. This past month included one of those moments for our family. The “life will never be the same,” forever categorizing time as either before or after moments. On September 15, we welcomed our son Milo into the family!
Needless to say, it’s been a wild and crazy month of long nights, memorable firsts, and many visits from friends and family. Throughout it all, the things on this month’s list helped me keep on keeping on. Enjoy!
One of the ways people like to support new parents is with food, and rightfully so! I can personally attest to the fact that being a food source myself right now means I have absolutely zero interest in preparing food, too. We’ve received pastries, brownies, a grocery delivery of dinner staples, and a really lovely Spoonful of Comfort care package from my work team.
The package delivered right to my doorstep and included two big containers of tomato soup, rolls, cookies, and two spoons that say “Souper Mom” and “Souper Dad.” Exactly corny enough for a set of new parents to appreciate! All the food was fantastic and easy to heat up, which makes all the difference when you’re surviving on little sleep and only have so much time between feeding and changing and consoling a newborn.
Spoonful of Comfort has a number of different packages to choose from for all sorts of occasions, and I would recommend it as a great way to let someone know you care. Because is there any better way to a person’s heart than through their stomach?
I never used to be one for straight up romance books, but I have to say I’m a big fan of the contemporary romance hitting bookshelves lately! Book Lovers by Emily Henry was the first book I read after bringing Milo home, and I absolutely devoured it.
Not only is it an adorable romantic comedy, but it also felt like a little love letter to those of us who love books. The protagonist is a literary agent and her first rival, then love interest is an editor, so the story revolves around books and those who “get” them. There’s also a really special sister relationship that I loved, too. I gave this one five stars on Goodreads, and I would 100% recommend it.
Buy from Amazon Buy from Better World BooksI regularly go back and forth between hating that we don’t have a sweetgreen in Cincinnati to thanking my lucky stars that my bank account hasn’t taken the hit that it would if we did. Needless to say, any time I’m in a city with one, I’m getting my fix.
When I kicked off my first week of maternity leave without my husband, I knew I’d need something easy to throw together but yummy enough to remind me to eat between feeding the baby. I used this recipe from Food.com for its simple vinaigrette but skipped the beet and fennel. I put all the ingredients together in a large bowl that I kept in the fridge and only dressed it once I’d gotten what I wanted for any given meal.
I’d wanted to try Dropps for a while, so when I needed to get fragrance-free, good for baby laundry detergent, I decided to give them a try. Compared with liquid detergent from a plastic bottle, these little drops are self-contained pods that use less water, less plastic, and are produced with fewer carbon emissions than traditional detergent.
I honestly can say that they pack a bigger laundry punch than I’d expected, too. I won’t go into the gory details, but Milo is not the cleanest and Dropps gets everything out of his clothes! You can get 30% off your first dropps order by using my link: https://share.dropps.com/tylerhyde.
It’s been a month of big changes for me! How was the first month of fall for you?
