Last night, at exactly 9:26, I realized that I didn’t have a blog post written for today. There are really two reasons for this: 1) I just felt meh about the post that I’d planned to write for today, and 2) I’d spent the entire afternoon (and both bus rides and my lunch break) devouring John Green’s Paper Towns. It was so good, and you should read it before the movie comes out this summer! But I digress…
Anyway, I did what every blogger does when their brain isn’t turning out blog post ideas fast enough — I scoured Pinterest for blog posts about blog posts. And finally I found this one by Kay and I just about died when I saw her idea to “Live blog your day!” I must warn you that my days have been much less exciting since I returned home from my eight-day business trip, but hopefully interacting with you guys throughout the day will keep things exciting.
6:15 a.m.
This is when I was supposed to have gotten up this morning…
6:58 a.m
And this is when I actually did. I just had to stay up to see the spelling bee co-champions on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which meant less sleep for me than I normally like. Right now I have about an hour and ten minutes to get out of the apartment and catch my bus. Fingers crossed!
8:18 a.m.
The bus was a little late this morning, and for once I am not complaining. I actually got up so late that I had to take the last bus of the morning, which means I’ll be getting to work a little late today. Oops!
For now, I’m going to sip my coffee and start reading this month’s pick for book club — The Count of Monte Cristo.
8:53 a.m.
We’re finally downtown. I just have a short walk over to the Scripps Center (which will soon be adorned with MLB All-Star paraphernalia), and then I can start my day!
10:06 a.m.
I have this terrible habit of forgetting to eat breakfast once I get to work, so yesterday I brought a loaf of bread and a jar of Jif’s, so I can at the very least make toast each morning. Today I decided to forgo our normal break room toaster for one that we received last year from one of our vendors. 🙂
11:42 a.m.
Well today has been a different day in the office, indeed! You know how unpacking after a long trip is the worst part of the entire thing? Well imagine packing your entire office, taking it on a business trip, and then having to unpack and reorganize it all when you got back. I’m currently in the unpacking stage of the process!
I should’ve taken a before picture, but I’ll definitely share what will hopefully be a fully unpacked and neatly reorganized storage area before the day’s out. Until then, get excited for a lunch break in about 45 minutes.
12:52 p.m.
Does anyone else really, really, really, really, really, really like that new song by Carly Rae Jepsen? Listening to music makes the workday go faster when you’re organizing office supplies, and that song just keeps me pumped. And I just get it. (If you haven’t seen the music video yet, you must click that link. Like right now. And try to prepare yourself for the strangest, most glorious thing.)
What I meant by all of that is that Carly Rae made me completely forget that it was lunch time! Here’s a picture of my decidedly boring salad. Although, that little blue wrapper in the corner is from a rum raisin flavored KitKat that I’m interested to try.
1:45 p.m.
Last month there was about a two-week period when I was too busy to really take a lunch break. Now that I have my full hour back, I’m utilizing it to the fullest. And by that I mean that I wrote a draft of Friday’s blog post (SPOILER ALERT: there will be more #spellingbee fun!), mentally prepared for this afternoon’s workout, and watched Taylor Swift’s new music video three times. Alright, four. Four times.
3:38 p.m.
I stopped for an afternoon snack, and I swear I might just fall asleep right here at my desk! I guess moving heavy boxes around all day will do that to you. There’s not much to report from the last two hours, but I will say that I am now wholeheartedly a Cavs fan (see here).
4:42 p.m.
I’m going to run to make the 4:55 bus today, so I’ll see you all on the other side… of the work day!
6:06 p.m.
I made the bus! Then I spent the next 30ish minutes alternating between fighting sleep and Pinning house design ideas. It was obviously a very productive part of my day.
Once I got off the bus, I called my dad and made a quick pit stop at Long John Silver’s for some coleslaw because, while I believe KFC has the best fast food coleslaw, we do not have a KFC near us, and Long John Silver’s is the next best thing. We’re heating up a huge thing of barbecue pulled pork from Sam’s tonight, which we will proceed to eat for the next four days; it’s that massive. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go cut up some potatoes to roast and try to convince myself to do the arm workout that’s on my lifting schedule.
7:16 p.m.
Okay, so no, I haven’t done my workout yet. Technically I haven’t left the couch since I got home… but I did take this super cute photo of Zoey, and getting her to look at the camera basically burns as many calories as lifting weights, right?
Instead of doing everything that I told myself I would do tonight, I’ve been on RoomSketcher creating an interactive blueprint of our new house! I don’t know if I told you all, but they broke ground on our lot yesterday, and I’m already getting excited about painting and decorating and making our house our home. So for the foreseeable future, I’ll be figuring out where to place all of our furniture.
P.S. Have I said thanks yet for following along with me all day? It’s certainly made my day more interesting than it would have been!
8:02 p.m.
I know what you’re thinking: Does a Blood Orange flavored Mike’s Hard really go with barbecue?
And all I have to say to that is yes, yes it does. I’d be willing to bet I could make it go with just about anything because it is really darn good.
8:45 p.m.
I’m finally finished! It’s a very rough look at what our house will resemble come November, but it at least lets me look at how everything furniture-wise will fit. Want a sneak peek?
Once Spencer and his college bestie stop killing aliens in Destiny (which they’ve been doing since before I got home from work), I’ll show off my handiwork, and we can start to argue about paint colors and armchair placement. Until then, I’m going to sit and try to imagine that our four to six months are up, and we’re much closer to moving in than we really are. 🙂
9:56 p.m.
Since I’ve been sinking further and further into the couch for the last thirty minutes (and because Spencer finally put away the Xbox controller), I think it’s about time to say goodnight. It’s been really fun to spend the day with all of you, and I appreciate you coming back to the blog throughout the day to check in with me! We’ll have to do this whole live blogging thing again some time. Until then, goodnight!
