You guys, I could not be more excited to share all of my thoughts on this new app that I got to test thanks to my job! #jobperks #justusedahashtaginablogpost
It’s called Buzzworthy, and it’s the spelling bee app that all of us word nerds have been waiting for. Every September I listen along as my husband and his super cool college friends participate in the NFL Fantasy Football draft, and now I feel like I have my own way to play along with what we all know is the best sporting event on ESPN every year!
When you create an account on Buzzworthy, five spellers are randomly assigned to you. These are your spellers, and you gain points based on how well they do during onstage competition. If you’d like to pick a speller of your own, it’s as simple as sharing the app on social media; then you will be prompted to choose a speller, and you can search by speller number, name, or even state.
In the Buzzworthy app, Hives are basically like fantasy leagues. You can join a Hive by request, or you can create your own Hive and then share a unique promo code with family and friends, allowing them to join your Hive and bring their spellers (and points!) with them. The idea is to have the champion speller in your Hive when it’s all said and done, but it’s also fun to see how you’re doing in comparison to the other members of your Hive!
Here are a few other cool things you can do in the
spelling bee app:
- Learn more about each of the 285 spellers in the Bee, including where they’re from, what school they attend, and an interesting bio and fun factoid
- Predict the words that you believe spellers will be asked to spell during competition – if you’re right, you get a huge point bonus!
- Catch up on all the Scripps National Spelling Bee “buzz” through a Bee-oriented Twitter feed and access the brand new Scripps National Spelling Bee Podcast
- Get real-time competition updates and find out what words spellers were asked to spell and how they misspelled them
The app is available for Apple, Android, and Windows devices, and you can access whichever version is right for you by visiting buzzworthy.spellingbee.com. But don’t wait around on this one; there’s only one more day before you can begin watching the onstage rounds on ESPN!
Download the spelling bee app, and let me know what you think!
