Happy Monday, everyone! We had such a great weekend, celebrating Mother’s Day and better acquainting the two sides of the family with one another. When we got back to Cincy, we had a big milestone to celebrate: Zoey’s third birthday! It seems like just yesterday that we were picking her up from the humane society and taking her home in a little cardboard box. Here’s a photo of super tiny Zoey, so you can share all of my feels.
Alas, she is no longer a kitten. In fact, she celebrated three years of life yesterday, and when I Googled “cat years,” I found this cat years calculator from Purina that states Zoey is now 28 years old! 28, so basically she’s the oldest member of our household. I totally believe it.
Since I haven’t been around for one of Zoey’s birthdays (and since we left her all alone during the weekend to hang out in Georgia), I wanted to celebrate it right. Originally that meant making this awesome cat birthday cake. And then I realized we barely had any of the necessary ingredients, so I switched gears and decided on a less involved, cake-shaped mound of tuna with some strategically placed cat treats (courtesy of Temptations). Ta da!
It might not look like much, but she certainly devoured it when I gave it to her. I wanted to sing “Happy Birthday” to her, too, but when I asked Spencer if he wanted to help, the only response I got was a “Hah.” I guess the NBA post-season trumps the cat’s third birthday. (Zoey, if you’re reading this, remember who loves you more!)
I actually had to take it away from her about halfway through because I was afraid she would make herself sick. She’ll get it back tonight. We owe her a few more celebratory hours anyway!
Does anyone else celebrate pets’ birthdays, or am I as crazy as my husband thinks I am?
